COMPETITION OBEDIENCE
Competition obedience instruction is open to all that are interested in either AKC style or Schutzhund Obedience and is available in group and private classes. One of the most mentally demanding of dog sports competitive obedience was developed to showcase the dogs ability to serve man in demonstrating skills in jumping, retrieving, scent work, heeling, stays, directed sends, and the immediate and accurate response to many motion and stationary cues. All these obedience skills have a history and purpose directly related to the dogs value as a service animal in military, police, and human assistance. Competitive obedience today is a result of that canine working history and allows handlers to demonstrate and showcase via a sporting venue the skills that make the dog a true partner. All breeds and mixes of dogs can excel in this advanced form of obedience training and classes and instruction are tailored to each dogs needs. Obedience training done correctly showcases a “thinking” dog, one in which demonstrates the required skills in full drive (focused energy) and precision all while responding to its handlers directions. Obedience is a sport in which each advanced exercise builds on the understanding of basic foundation skills. As dogs achieve mastery of each task their confidence soars and as such their ability to showcase some very advanced and impressive skill sets. Competitive obedience trained dogs easily branch out to other canine sporting disciplines and make great cross training candidates.
